Mainstage and TheatreXtra Auditions

The Drama Department has an open audition policy in respect to the season presented. Preference will be given to BFA- Dramatic Arts students. 

Audition dates for all department productions are posted here and may, in addition, be posted at other locations both on and off campus. If at all possible, audition information should be posted two weeks before auditions. 

Style and format of auditions are left to the Director's discretion, however, all persons wishing to audition for a department production are required to: 

  • Read the play in its entirety before auditioning.
  • Sign up for an audition time, if applicable.
  • Come to the audition prepared; specific requirements will be posted on audition notices.

  • Students are asked to come prepared with two monologues for this audition: one contemporary and one classical, from Shakespeare’s canon of plays.
  • All students participating in the first round of auditions will be considered for roles in both A Lie of the Mind and Titus Andronicus and you must audition for both productions.
  • Those interested in auditioning should sign up for an audition time at the bulletin boards behind the box office on level 5.

Callbacks will be on Monday April 15, 2019

Symbols of 3

About the Show:
Symbols of 3 is an experimentation in storytelling looking to create a unique experience for performers and audience.  Symbols of 3 will make use of skills and technique frm devised, improvised and scripted theatre.

Please prepare a short monologue of your choosing, and a short creation piece around the given text:
Where does the time go when there’s none left
Where do my friends go when I accuse them of theft
Crumbs and scraps satisfy my needs
If only because of my list of personal deeds

Performance Program Auditions

Auditions will be occurring April 16-18, 2019 in W480 for Drama Fall 2019 Acting II, Directing II and Devised Theatre II.  To register for these auditions/interviews, please visit Shawn Coburn in W660 by 4:00PM on March 25, 2019.

The Chinook Regional One Act Festival

The Chinook Regional One Act Festival will be held at the newly renovated Sterndale Bennett Theatre on Friday, March 29 & Saturday, March 30 (Winner of 'Best Play' would take it to Provincial One Acts in May in High River). They would love to have a few more student entries, and there is still time to register.  Deadline is March 15 to register. Please email Kate Connolly or Rita Peterson or enter via the ADFA site.

1. Plays must be 10 mins minimum and 60 minutes max.
2. Can be original or existing script, but cannot be an 'excerpt' - eg one act taken from a 2 or 3 act script.
3. Partially improvised plays are welcomed - as long as they follow a story arc, and could be closely replicated over several performances.
4. Professional Technical help available for performances at the Sterndale
5. Entry fee of $25 per play
