Annual Art Department Open House & Awards Ceremony
From September to April the art studio spaces are filled with a flurry of creative ideas and activity, and a diverse range of materials and practices. At the end of the spring semester in April, the Department of Art hosts its annual Art Open House, celebrating the works of Art students from the fall and spring semesters with members of the community. This event features sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, installation, digital media, ceramics, and photography among other art forms.
Any student enrolled in at least one Art course during the academic year is eligible to participate in the Art Open House. Student organizers and volunteers, led by Advanced and Senior Studio students, designate space for individual and class use, repair and paint walls, move furniture, and install artwork. Faculty also install and display class projects from all levels of study.
On the day of the event, studios and facilities are open to the public from 10 am - 5 pm, where interested parties are able to wander through at their own pace. There is a welcome table situated on the 8th floor in the uLethbridge Centre for the Arts, with students present to answer questions and guide visitors through the facilities. A catalogue designed by students, featuring the work of advanced, senior, and graduate students is also available for purchase. The day culminates with an awards ceremony and reception at 4 pm.
An information/organization meeting for Advanced and Senior Studio students is usually held in February -watch out for notices and emails regarding exact time and location.
