The Sirocco Saxophone Quartet is a dynamic ensemble, seeking to engage audiences with their rich and diverse chamber music repertoire.  They perform original works, transcriptions and new commissions.  Through close collaboration with composers of different nationalities including Charlotte Bray (UK), Laura Bowler (UK), Betin Günes (Turkey) and Thilo Schaller (Germany) the group is committed to expanding the repertoire for saxophone quartet, opening doors to new soundworlds.

Sirocco was formed at the Royal College of Music in 2006 where its members studied with Kyle Horch and Martin Robertson.  After graduating they continued their postgraduate studies with world-renowned professors in Paris, Cologne and The Hague.

They give regular recitals in the UK, Germany and across Europe and have performed in some exceptional venues including the Purcell Room, Cadogan Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields and Wigmore Hall.  They were Park Lane Group Young Artists in 2009 and received a Musicians Benevolent Fund Ensemble Award in 2011.

Members of Sirocco live in different countries: Michaela Stapleton and Huw Wiggin in the UK, Greta Schaller and Gregor Böhmerle in Germany.  Since its formation in 2006 the quartet has worked with great passion and commitment, preparing intensively for each performance despite the distances involved. A recent review (Westfalische Nachrichten, Germany) made the astute observation that“...their music grows from a friendship you could hear in every single bar”.   This is Sirocco’s driving force: long lasting friendship and a mutual love for the music they seek to share.
