Who is it that will tell me what I am?

Thauberger will discuss the process and production of the works in her exhibition at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery together along with two additional new works that critically examine her own role as artistic producer.

Althea Thauberger is an artist, filmmaker and educator based in Vancouver: Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Territories. In local/global contexts, her work contributes to the field of collaborative social documentary. Her recent film projects have involved communities of articulation and awareness around social and political issues disclosed by collective research. Thauberger’s screenings and exhibitions include the inaugural Karachi Biennale; the Audain Gallery, Vancouver; the 2012 Liverpool Biennale; the 17th Biennale of Sydney; La musée d’art contemporain de Montréal; the occupied Kino Zvezda, Belgrade; the Berkeley Art Museum; Manifesta 7; BAK, basis voor aktuele kunst, Utrecht; and the Power Plant, Toronto; among many others.

Thauberger's exhibition Who Is It That Will Tell Me What I Am, opens at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery September 29 and is on view until November 24.
