Day 9 October 24, 2006 Lake Nakuru National Park to Masai Mara National Reserve
Leaving we saw Lake Nakura was again home to hundreds of flamingos. We made our mid-morning stop at the same place we had been a few days before but this time we were more careful when it came to bargaining. We continued along the Rift Valley created millions of years ago under the strain of enormous volcanic eruptions which resulted in a giant split in the earth's surface from Syria to Mozambique. Lava flowed into the valley, forming escarpments on either side of the gigantic trough which can be up to 80 km (50 miles) wide, big enough to be visible from space. The road had so many pot holes I wondered would it not be easier to just cut across the desert-like plain. Before long that seemed to be what was happening as streaks of dust seemed to be showing up in every direction. We arrived at a Masai village where we observed their traditional dance before having the home & garden tour. Soon after we entered Masai Mara National Reserve and after a late lunch and a short rest we were ready for our late afternoon game drive. . |
