About the Programs

Summer School Utrecht is a partnership between three universities within Utrecht. Together, they offer a wide range of courses in management, art history, European history, politics, economics, psychology, healthcare, life sciences, and much more. They have also partnered with a few universities throughout Europe to offer programs in Germany, Italy, Spain, and Latvia. A few of the courses are listed below, but many more can be found on their website. To earn one 3 credit U of L course, you must take 6 ECTS or more within the same subject area. If you are interested in a course that is not listed below, please email outgoing@uleth.ca so we can have the course evaluated for credit transfer.

Global Skills Opportunity Funding

Domestic undergraduate students who participate in a Summer School Utrecht summer program will receive up to $5,000 through the Global Skills Opportunity Award.

Underrepresented students: up to $5,000

Art History

A Journey Through Dutch Art

Experience the highlights of Dutch art from the last 400 years first hand. This track covers many of the country's most renowned artists, museums, and cities. Discover the famous masters from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, up to the early decades of modernism, including artists such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh and Mondrian. This program will take you out of the classroom and into cities, museums and churches – you will not be able to get closer to the masterpieces themselves!

History of Art Relations Between Italy and the Netherlands

The Utrecht Summer School offers the opportunity to travel back in time and experience the art of two traditions firsthand, staying in two cities that played a crucial role in the art of their country: Florence and Utrecht. This highly interactive course takes place largely in front of the original artworks, allowing you to experience, discuss and learn more about them as they stand in front of you.

Health Sciences

Healthy Aging

Gain a better understanding of the aging process, the prevention of functional decline, and preservation of autonomy. Different excursions will let you experience getting older. Prior to the course, you will be given an assignment to conduct a life review with an elderly person (65+) which will be presented during the course.

History

The Rise of Modern Europe

Seize the opportunity to stay in two of the most exciting cities of Europe: Utrecht and Berlin, and travel back in time! The two parts of this programme will provide you with an exciting Dutch and German outlook on the history of Europe and help you understand the different factors that came to shape modern Europe. You will immerse yourself in Europe’s history and culture from the Middle Ages to the end of the 20th century and visit many of its significant sites.

Dive into the exhilarating history of Europe, from the rise of civilization in Antiquity in Rome to the modern era of the 19th century in Utrecht. This course will provide you with a thorough knowledge of the history of these cities and nations, as well as an exciting overview of the history and workings of Europe.

The Making of Europe

Dive into the thrilling history of Europe and its role on the world stage, focus on three of the most exciting cities of Europe: Rome, Utrecht, and Berlin. This course is a combination of three courses, designed by three excellent European universities, and provides an overview of the history and functioning of Europe. Immerse yourself in the history and culture of Europe with a multidisciplinary approach that addresses political, economic, and societal perspectives.

The Essence of Business Models & International Business - includes trip to Milan, Italy

A four-week track especially designed for you to learn how business is being done in Europe. The learning approach consists of a blend of applied-theoretical approaches, case studies, real-life examples, excursions, a study trip to Italy (Milan) and a five day's immersion towards mastering the 21st century skills for global citizenship for personal and professional growth.

Innovation in European Business: Business Models, Leadership and Design

Innovation is key for companies to adapt to a rapidly changing business environment and is arguably the most important factor for long-term organisational success. During this track you will be introduced to the drivers and challenges of innovation in Europe and how people and organizations handle these. You will gain experience, insights and in-depth knowledge of innovation in Europe. You will look at different perspectives of innovation, on an individual level as well as on an organizational level, to explore innovative supportive features of leaders, organizations and processes.
