On March 22, 2018, ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit arrested an 18-year-old man, a University of Lethbridge student, in relation to incidents that allegedly took place within the men’s changing facilities in the Centre for Sport and Wellness at the University of Lethbridge. Following is a link to the news release issued by ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team): https://www.alert-ab.ca/suspect-voyeur-arrested-at-lethbridge-pool/.

Out of concern for the safety, security and well-being of the University community and members of the public who use our facilities, the student has been prohibited from returning to campus. We will continue to work closely with the ALERT unit to assist in their investigation.

To ensure facility users are aware of this situation, Sport and Recreation Services is attempting to contact user groups that may have used the facility during the periods when the alleged offences occurred. Anyone with information about this investigation or any child exploitation offence is encouraged to contact local police or www.cybertip.ca.

The safety and security of our campus community, including faculty, staff, students and our community users, is of the utmost importance. The University of Lethbridge has policies in place aimed at providing safe spaces for facility users, including disallowing use of cell phones in changing facilities and controlled access. In light of this incident, Campus Security is increasing patrols of the facility and encourages anyone using such facilities to always report suspicious activity, as was done in this instance.
