The University of Lethbridge expresses its sincere condolences to the family, friends and former co-workers of Jack Harrington, a longtime former staff member of the U of L who passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the age of 68 years.

Harrington came to the U of L in August 1974 and worked as a technical specialist in the University Library for more than 30 years, before retiring in August 2005.

“Jack was a good man and a friend - a more helpful person would be hard to find," says Mike Perry, the University archivist and a co-worker of Harrington's. "Jack was a fixture on campus whether it was in the library, in classrooms or at convocation. A “Jack of all Trades” indeed. We all missed him when he retired and I was reminded again today of how much. He was a prolific walker and enjoyed hiking. Have a beer tonight in his memory. He would have liked  that.”

The following obituary notice is available on the Cornerstone Funeral website.

JACK HARRINGTON, beloved husband of Diane Muma, loving father of Karen (Ryan) and proud Papa to Finley, passed peacefully in Lethbridge on Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 at the age of 68, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Jack will be remembered as a jack of all trades, fixing things at home or helping out a friend. He was happiest when he was out walking in the coulees or on mountain trails. He cycled or walked to work at the U of L almost every day for 35 years. Jack is now free to roam once more.

Memorial tributes may be made in Jack’s name to the Alzheimer Society of Lethbridge, #40, 1202 – 2Avenue South, T1J 0E3.

At Jack’s request, no formal funeral service will take place. The University will lower its flag in honour of Jack on Monday, February 26, 2018.
