The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Jessie Snow (BASc (BA) ’71, BEd ’72, DipEd ’81), who passed away Jan. 9 at the age of 97.

Born in Niagara Falls, Ont., Snow moved to a ranch just outside Milk River with her husband, Jay, after the Second World War. She was a strong advocate for the U of L to be located on the west side and was a founding member of the U of L Senate, serving until 1974.

When her family was grown, Snow enrolled at the U of L and became the first female president of the U of L Students’ Union, representing the ULSU on the Board of Governors. She eventually realized her dream to become a teacher, receiving her certificate just before she turned 65. Snow worked as a special education consultant for Holy Spirit Catholic Schools  until 2007.

Snow was inducted into the U of L Alumni Association’s Honour Society in 2010.

A full obituary is available at Arbor Memorial. In honour of Snow, the U of L will lower its flag on Tuesday, Feb. 6. A celebration of life is being planned for the summer.
