COVID-19 - Information Update, Mar. 12

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

The COVID-19 pandemic situation is unfolding at a rapid rate and the University of Lethbridge is actively planning for every scenario. We continue to work closely with Alberta Health Services and other community partners to help inform our decision-making.

We urge the campus community to continue to visit the COVID-19 web page for all the latest factual information and to access the list of available, reliable resources for everything you need to know about COVID-19.

As of today (Thursday, Mar. 12), the University has created COVID-19 Health Registries for students (go.uleth.ca/studentillness) and employees (go.uleth.ca/staffillness). These registries are self-reporting tools that allow persons to report whether they are presenting symptoms of COVID-19.

The Student Health Registry is available here. If you register as a student, you will be contacted by Student Services to discuss your situation, and apprised of any academic accommodations that may be needed.

The Employee Health Registry is available here. If you register as a faculty or staff member, you will be contacted by Human Resources to discuss your situation, and given information on specific accommodations related to your employment at the University.

AHS advises that if you have symptoms such as fever, cough and difficulty breathing and have travelled outside Canada or have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, stay home and call Health Link 811. If you are not seriously ill, DO NOT go to the University Health Centre, a physician’s office, a health-care facility or a lab without consulting with Health Link 811 first. Call 911 if you are seriously ill and need immediate medical attention and inform them that you may have COVID-19.

Earlier today (Thursday, Mar. 12), the Alberta government advised event organizers to cancel any events that have more than 250 attendees, including large sporting events, conferences and community events. The U of L has created an event registry (go.uleth.ca/EventRegistry) as a means to compile a comprehensive list of all events currently scheduled or being planned on campus. If you are an event organizer, follow this link and register your event.

We understand that everyone has questions. We have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions for our campus community. For students who are wondering about class attendance, exams, online alternatives and more, please check here. For faculty and staff who are wondering about issues related to their positions, please check here.

Currently, Alberta Health Services has not directed any post-secondary institutions to close their classrooms. We are, however, mindful of the fact that this may be an eventuality. Provost Erasmus Okine will be communicating shortly with our academic community about their responsibility to prepare to deliver their courses online, and a team has been dedicated to technically support this transition.

For all other inquiries, contact Campus Safety at COVID19.inquiries@uleth.ca. Their dedicated team is working to answer all questions, and please be patient as they work through the volume of emails they are receiving.

It is important we help each other stay informed with the latest factual information and rely on credible sources. Visit uleth.ca/covid-19 frequently for updated information.
