Description
This workshop introduces Digital Humanities to those without previous experience in the field. It is generally intended for humanists and social scientists, but other DH-curious individuals are also welcome to attend.
The workshop explores the history of computer applications to humanities research, including its disciplinary impact as well as its applications across the curriculum. The second day of the workshop focuses on methodology and offers workstations where participants can experience different methods and choose a focus for their workshops. Day 3 will consist of hands-on workshops in which participants will work with specific tools and methods with sample projects and data sets. During Day 4, participants will complete their projects and present them to the group. This will be followed by a period of discussion before the closing remarks.
Objectives
After this workshop, participants will have gained knowledge of the following:
- An understanding of the history and development of the digital humanities
- A general view of the field
- Knowledge of flagship projects at different stages of DH
- An understanding of the ideological and metacritical developments in the field.
- An understanding of various approaches and methodologies
- Hands-on experience with one of the proposed methods during the workshop setting
