What is mini uLethbridge?

Destination Exploration, Horns Recreation, uLethbridge Music Conservatory and Art Gallery have come together to offer virtual summer camps! Open to all, but targeted to those completed grades 2 through 6! Each camp will feature a little bit from each group so that all the campers get a whole new and fun online camp experience! Join us for a specific week or all four, it’s up to you. You only need to sign up for one registration per household, per week. We will also be offering weekly kits for purchase, where you can find all the materials you need – make sure to grab one per participant! If you have three children at home, sign up for one registration but three boxes.

What does a day at camp look like?

Each day starts off by everyone coming together on a live call at 9:30 am.  These “Live with Luxie” activities will allow the staff and campers to connect with each other, complete a fun activity and share what they were able to do the day before. Live with Luxie activities will be roughly 45 minutes in length.

After the live call ends, two new activity videos will be posted. These are completed at the camper’s own pace, so you can set the schedule for the rest of the day! These pre-recorded videos can be completed by everyone, but one will be aimed for those in grades 2+ and the other for grades 4+. They are designed to take anywhere from 30-60 minutes.

In addition to these videos, there will be a quick and fun “Learning with Luxie” activity that can be done with little or no materials around the house. They come in a worksheet format and are just a great little activity or challenge if you are looking for something to do.

Each of the U of L camp programs have different operating procedures. Please reach out to where your child is registered to find updates on the status of in-person camps.

Destination Exploration, Horns Recreation and the uLethbridge Art Gallery and Music Conservatory.

Campers will start each day by joining a live call using Microsoft Teams. These “Live with Luxie” activities will allow the staff and campers to connect with each other and share what they were able to do the day before. Each day two new activity videos will be posted (one aimed for grades 2+ and the other for grades 4+) that can be completed at the camper’s own pace. These activities/projects are designed to take anywhere from 30-60 minutes. In addition to these videos, there will be a quick and fun “Learning with Luxie” activity that can be done with little or no materials around the house.

Each camp day will start at 9:30 a.m. with the Live with Luxie video calls. Campers should expect to be online for roughly 45 minutes each morning. The remainder of the activities can be completed at the camper’s own pace.

As this is a free program with limited spots, we ask that you take a look at your calendars before registering your family. There will be no refunds for purchased boxes once they have been picked up.

A list of supplies needed for each will be provided during registration. Purchasing a box of materials is not necessary if you are able to provide the materials yourselves. Full Box Content Here.  The boxes have been put together to provide you with the majority of the materials needed including specialty items and custom 3D printed parts for certain activities.

Each day and its activities should take half a day, but campers may find something they enjoy doing and want to explore or extend the activity further.

While the material boxes provide most of the supplies needed, we do expect you to provide some of the more common supplies that can be found around the house like scissors, markers, tape etc. When your campers are working on their activities, they are designed to have limited parent involvement, but we ask that you can be available if they require assistance. Full Box Content Here

Any computer/tablet that is able to connect to a stable internet connection is needed. Our live activities will be run using Microsoft Teams, while you do not need an account to attend, we ask that your device is able to join a Teams meeting. There are no other requirements for operating systems.

If you have multiple kids, please register only once. Multiple children will be able to participate in one household. You then have the option of purchasing more than one material box to accommodate for the additional participants.

We will continue to update our community as plans and regulations for institution changes in light of the COVID-19 re-opening plan. Should there be no ability to have in-person camps in August, this same schedule will be repeated
