Management Finance students in the Centre
The 48-station Centre recently constructed in Markin Hall is Western Canada’s first commodity trading laboratory, and provides students hands-on experience in derivatives trading and risk management. It functions as a trading simulator and a research lab.
The University of Lethbridge is the second academic institution in the world to have a derivatives-oriented trading room, with direct connections to futures exchanges around the world.
Alberta’s resource-based economy needs experts who can trade commodities, weather and currency futures and options. Financial experts, well-versed in derivatives trading strategies, design structured investment instruments, which are easier to sell into global markets to raise money for long-term strategic investments in Alberta.
Our state-of-the art derivatives trading room will become a very attractive asset for the University of Lethbridge. The trading room will be a real-time laboratory for advanced financial market-oriented research projects and will attract interested international visitors to the new Markin Hall.
