Chester Beaty passed away on Jan 11, 2000 in Blairmore, Alberta. Dr Beaty was born in Chicago. He moved from the States to Alberta in 1969 to join the geography department at the fledgling University of Lethbridge. For the next 20 years the university was his headquarters for scholarly work, which included numerous journal articles and a book, ‘The landscapes of southern Alberta’. Since his retirement in 1990, Chip’s interests in geography and geology were expressed in volunteer work at the Frank Slide Interpretation Centre at Crowsnest Pass. He is missed by the Alberta community.
