What is the story behind Waterton's tragic marriage?

In May 1829, at the age of 47, Charles Waterton married Anne Edmonstone at a convent in Bruges in Belgium. Anne was aged only 17, thirty years younger than her bridegroom, and had been living at the convent for two years to prepare for conversion to the Catholic religion. She was the daughter of a friend that Waterton had met in Guyana, South America,
Charles Edmonstone of Cardross Park near Glasgow.

Their marriage seems to have been a loving and happy one, but it was tragically short for Anne died in April 1830, six days after giving birth to their son
Edmund.
