The Virgin can be seen on the hill overlooking San Francisco Plaza.
The small, rounded hill that dominates the old town is called El Panecillo or "the little bread loaf' and is a major Quito landmark.

It is topped by a huge statue of the Virgin of Quito with her crown of stars and eagle's wings.
