Whipple appointed to director role

The University of Lethbridge is pleased to appoint Mike Whipple as Director, Office of the President, a role he will begin officially on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018.

“I’m very excited to welcome Mike to our office and look forward to the opportunity to work with him and gain the insight he brings from his experience here at the University,” says U of L President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mike Mahon. “As an alumnus and longtime employee, he brings a valuable voice to the office and will be an excellent addition to our leadership team.”

Whipple (BA’03) earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Lethbridge and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University in 2011. He has been at the U of L, in various capacities, since 1998, beginning as a student and working in Sport & Recreation Services as a member of the Fitness Centre staff.

Upon graduation from the U of L, Whipple was the Equipment Room Supervisor, after which he transitioned into roles as Customer Service Coordinator and eventually Associate Athletic Director, a position he has held since 2015.

A member of the U of L Senate since 2014, Whipple has served on a number of key committees at the University, including the U of L South Campus Development Committee, the Administrative Professional Office Executive and the People Plan Committee.

“I am very fortunate to have been a part of this incredible institution as an undergraduate student and then as an employee for the last 20-plus years,” says Whipple. “The knowledge gained from my colleagues is difficult to quantify, but I can say without hesitation that through the insights shared and the experiences I have had that they have formed who I am both professionally and personally. I am honoured and feel extremely privileged to be a part of this family and I am grateful every single day for the opportunities that have been afforded me.”
