Dr. Mickey Vallee (Sociology) has received a $12,685 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Insight Development Grant to further his work on the long-term cultural impact of renowned Canadian classical pianist Glenn Gould.

As a recording artist from the late 1950s until his death in 1982, Gould was significantly ahead of his time in terms of his use of technology, including composing radio documentaries that blurred the lines between music and knowledge dissemination.

Gould pioneered many of the sound production techniques commonly used today (multi-tracking, oversampling and other technical augmentations) but applied them to his recordings and interpretations of classical music.
