Substantial contributions earn Berezan recognition through Senate Volunteer Award

As the University of Lethbridge celebrates National Volunteer Week, it is proud to announce James Berezan as the 2018 recipient of the Senate Volunteer Award.

The epitome of a committed volunteer, Berezan has willingly donated his time, expertise and experience to the University from 2004 to 2015. He served on the Senate from 2004 to 2009, assisting its outreach, Senate awards and fundraising committees. In 2009, he joined the University’s Board of Governors. Appointed by the lieutenant-governor, Berezan was the general public’s representative on the board. He served on several committees, including the executive, executive compensation and chairing the audit and finance committees.

Berezan shared his considerable knowledge and experience as a chartered accountant to assist the board in its financial obligations and his calm nature and dedicated professionalism were evident and appreciated by all who worked with him.

Even though he is no longer a member of the Board of Governors, Berezan continues to be an unwavering ambassador by attending University events and being involved in ad hoc committee work.

In addition to the time he has given to the University of Lethbridge, Berezan has also served on the boards and committees of community organizations like Covenant Health, St. Michael’s Housing Association, Lethbridge Public Library, the communications committee and merit award committee of CPA Alberta.

Berezan will be honoured during the University’s Convocation week activities and presented with his award at the Chancellor’s Dinner, Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Coast Lethbridge Hotel. Those planning to attend the dinner are asked to RSVP at ulethbridge.ca/convocation or by contacting the University of Lethbridge Senate Office (403-329-2482 or senate@uleth.ca). Tickets are priced at $75 per person.
