Mail service halted, options available

Getting mail in and out of the University of Lethbridge became a little more difficult on Wednesday in the wake of a general suspension of service by Canada Post.

On Thursday, June 2, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) began a series of rotating strike activities across the country. A general suspension of service by Canada Post came into effect Tuesday, June 14. Canada Post suspended operations nationally, citing an " . . . accelerating decline in volumes and revenue combined with the inability to deliver mail on a timely and safe basis."

At the U of L, the Materials Management team has a number of courier options available for urgent letter or package delivery. As well, electronic mail or fax options are also available. Any mail that is currently in the U of L delivery system will be held until the end of the work action as Canada Post will not be accepting any more mail.
