Face Masks

Masks are required in congested areas on the U of L campus such as lobbies, locker rooms and classrooms; however, you will not be required to wear a mask during your workout in our facilities as long as you maintain appropriate physical distancing from other facility users. We ask program and drop-in participants to bring masks and wear them where deemed necessary.

  Facility Hours & Access

Considering we remain under Stage 2 COVID-19 restrictions, all users are still required to pre-book a time slot (90 minutes) online for the Fitness Centre, gymnasium, track, Climbing Wall and the pool at Drop-In Recreation Bookings. Be advised that each facility still has a defined capacity that will be monitored and enforced. Each space will have a maximum number of occupants at any given time.  If you require assistance to set up your online account, contact Horns Recreation at 403-329-2706. Members will need to leave the facility in a timely fashion after their workout to allow for cleaning. Time slots are spaced 30 minutes apart to allow the equipment to be sanitized.

 Access to the Centre for Sport & Wellness (CSW) will be through the south & north facility doors only (climbing wall entrance and Tim Horton's entrance). All users are asked to park in Lot G (parking fees and times are now enforced). General facility hours of operation are as follows:

Monday - Friday:  5:30am - 7:00am; 7:30 - 9:00am; 9:30am - 11:00am; 11:30am - 1:00pm; 1:30 - 3:00pm; 3:30pm - 5:00pm; 5:30pm - 7pm; 7:30 - 9:00pm

Saturday:  8:00am - 9:30am; 10:00am - 11:30am; 12:00pm - 1:30pm; 1:45pm - 3:00pm; 3:30 - 5:00pm

 Procedures

In the Fitness Centre, all of the weight machines have been spread out to allow for appropriate physical distancing. The spin bikes, rowers and ellipticals have been moved into PE 152 or up to the track. Benches will be spaced out in the free weight area and the stretching area will be marked to accommodate for physical distancing.

In the Climbing Wall, all users will be required to wear a mask when climbing and physical distancing will be employed between ropes.

In the Aquatic Centre, lane swim bookings are currently available. All patrons will be required to take a shower before entering the pool. Personal belongings can be stored on the pool deck in designated areas. Physical distancing will be enforced and promoted at all times. Some facility features, including the pool viewing gallery, diving platforms, and steam rooms remain closed at this time.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The Centre for Sport & Wellness will be open for expanded hours starting September 8. Our facility hours are based on current facility demand and our program offerings. An expanded schedule may be possible if facility demand allows.

The Athletic/Recreation Services (ARS) Fee is mandatory for the majority of students (Full Time & Part Time) during the Fall and Winter Semesters.  The ARS Fee is shared between Horns Athletics & Recreation, and is integral to the continuous functioning and operation of:

  •  The Centre for Sport & Wellness & Stadium (e.g. maintenance, equipment replacement, staffing);
  •  Programming (Intramurals & Fitness);
  •  No charge entry to all Horns Athletics Home Games;
  •  Continued development of on-line options for Student wellbeing (e.g. streaming fitness classes, E-Sports);
  •  Ongoing operations of the Pronghorn Teams and Competitive Clubs (basketball, soccer, track & field, swimming, rugby, golf, ringette, curling, softball).

We will be offering digital programs and content for those students who will not be in Lethbridge for the fall semester as well. Stay tuned for additional information.

  • Locker rentals that expired on April 30 now expire on September 30, 2020.
  • Lockers that expired on August 31 have been extended to January 16, 2021.
  • Locker rentals (including those with towel service) will be available again starting September 1.

Our Private Swim Lessons have the distinction of being high quality due to the 1-on-1 nature of the lesson and the close interaction our instructors have with each child.  Under the current health guidelines, it is not possible to closely interact with each participant, thus, detracting from the experience and quality. Currently, the Horns Recreation team is working on structuring a revised PSL Program that will provide the same high quality of swim instruction that we are known for.  Our goal is to have lesson programming up and running in the near future; watch for updates on this webpage and join our mailing list to be the first to receive updated information.

For the moment, there is no determined reopening date for the steam rooms. Similar to other facilities and programs, we will explore reopening these facilities when we enter Stage 3 of Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy.

Change rooms and showers are now open with limitations to promote proper physical distancing. You’ll have to wear a mask in the change rooms, but can utilize the showers as long as you are able to maintain an appropriate physical distance from other facility users.

We are working hard on converting patron punch passes to a ‘digital punch pass’ that can be used for booking your visit online. In the meantime, bring your punch pass in to Horns Recreation team member. We’ll book in your visit and punch your pass.
