Campus Safety, Insurance & Risk Services should be contacted at the planning stages of any construction project to ensure the project specific insurance requirements are addressed. The University’s property insurer, CURIE, does not insure projects for the construction of new buildings, therefore all new building projects should be referred to Campus Safety, Insurance & Risk Services prior to design stage to ensure all insurance requirements are satisfied.
The University’s property insurance does extend coverage for existing buildings or structures undergoing renovations, additions or alterations having a total project cost of not more than $5,000,000.
It is important to note that the CURIE insurance does not extend coverage to any third party involved in the project inclusive of the prime consultant, sub consultants, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and any other service providers. Please refer to the specific insurance requirements for consultants and contractors.
