Adler, Allen

Faculty of Education
1942 to 2018

The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Allen Adler, a former professor in the Faculty of Education, who passed away on Sunday, Feb. 11.

Born in Washington, D.C. in 1942, Adler grew up in the playgrounds of Baltimore. He was a playground leader, a student athlete, lifeguard and coach — all of which led him to a pursue a career in teaching. After he completed a PhD from the University of Wisconsin, he taught at his alma mater for a year before moving to Canada in 1972 to accept a position at McMaster University. Three years later, Adler joined the Faculty of Education at the U of L where he taught until his retirement in 2000. He retained the spirit of the playground in his physical education curriculum, instruction, teacher education, and above all, his family life.

A private funeral service was held at Mountain View Cemetery on Feb. 12. The U of L will lower the flag on Monday, March 5 in Adler’s honour. Memorial contributions can be made to the Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers.
