Suspension of non-essential services for the University of Lethbridge and class cancellation (Lethbridge campus) for Sept 30, 2019

UPDATE: University of Lethbridge (Lethbridge campus) will resume classes and regular operations on Tuesday, October 1, 2019

The University of Lethbridge (Lethbridge campus) will resume classes as scheduled and regular operations on October 1, 2019.
Great progress by University of Lethbridge snow removal crews coupled with improving weather conditions has led to this decision.
Students, faculty, staff and members of the public accessing the University should expect some accessibility issues. Some parking lots and walking paths will have snow cover and slippery conditions are expected. Additionally, pedestrians should be aware of the possibility of snow and ice falling from some buildings.
The University continues to encourage those travelling to use extreme caution.
The University understands the cancellation of classes on September 30, 2019 may have inconvenienced faculty, staff and students. As mentioned in earlier messages, students should contact their professors regarding class, practicum or field work affected by the closure. Faculty members with questions should contact their respective dean's office.
The University of Lethbridge extends our special thanks to the snow removal crews and all of those who worked in challenging conditions today and over the weekend to provide necessary services to our community of residence students and ensuring vital university operations were maintained during this weather event.

 

11:10 a.m. (Sept 30, 2019)

University of Lethbridge crews have been working diligently to remove snow from the Lethbridge campus. Arterial roads are clear, the bus loop is open, and work is continuing to clear snow from building entrances.

While progress is being made, some parking lots remain difficult to access and coulee paths are inaccessible. Work will continue throughout the day to clear these areas.

Pedestrians should be careful navigating campus and use cleared routes. These routes may be slippery and caution should still be used. Also, pedestrians should remain aware of the possibility of snow and ice falling from some buildings.

The University encourages those traveling to use extreme caution and use judgment in determining if they should leave their homes.

The University will continue to assess the condition of the campus throughout the day, as well as accessibility to campus. The University of Lethbridge (Lethbridge campus) will continue to operate with reduced services for the remainder of Monday, September 30, 2019.  The 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness will remain closed as well.

A message regarding the resumption of University operations will be communicated widely to our campus community through this website, email and social media.

UPDATE: Suspension of non-essential services for the University of Lethbridge

Further to the earlier notification advising of the cancellation of classes on Monday, September 30, 2019, out of concern for our students, faculty and staff, the University will also be suspending all non-essential services at the University of Lethbridge (Lethbridge campus) for Monday, September 30, 2019.

Services required to ensure campus safety, security and mobility, animal care and essential services for residence students, will continue. Individuals responsible for fulfilling these critical roles will be contacted by their supervisors to ensure these important functions continue.

University employees and faculty not required to be on campus tomorrow are advised to stay home.

The Urban Market in University Hall will remain open to accommodate food services for residence students.

The University Library, the Teaching Centre and the University Daycare will be closed.

The 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness will be closed, however if conditions allow, may be reopened later in the day to accommodate regular community group usage.

University of Lethbridge (Lethbridge campus) cancels classes for Monday, September 30, 2019

Due to severe winter conditions caused by heavy snow and high winds, classes at the University of Lethbridge (Lethbridge campus) have been cancelled for Monday, September 30, 2019. The Moodle Testing Centre will also be closed.

The University campus will remain open and accessible to the public. Winter conditions are, however, creating significant mobility challenges and caution is encouraged to those accessing University facilities. Patrons should be aware that some walkways and parking lots will have limited accessibility.

Any University employees who are concerned for their safety or ability to access the University are also advised to stay home. 

The University understands the cancellation of classes for Monday, September 30, 2019, will inconvenience faculty, staff and students. This cancellation considers the safety of our University community. Students should contact their professors regarding class, practicum or field work that may be affected by the closure. Faculty members with questions about the cancellation of classes should contact their respective dean's office.  Staff unable to access the campus should advise their supervisor.
