Tutoring Services is seeking to hire a student leader for the Biology 1010 Peer-Assisted Study Session (PASS) program for the Fall 2017 semester.

Peer-assisted study sessions (PASS) are regularly scheduled study groups that are facilitated by an undergraduate student leader. In these sessions, the student leader organizes a variety of collaborative learning activities to help students improve their understanding of course content, while gaining practical study skills.

Hours: Approximately 8-10 hours a week, Monday to Friday (September 5 – December 6, 2017)

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Lethbridge

• Strong academic standing

• Received a B+ or higher in Biology 1010

• Available to attend the Biology 1010 course every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 – 10:50 a.m. or 11 – 11:50 a.m.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to lead students through a discussion and model critical thinking

Primary Activities:

• Attend Biology 1010 class lectures, take notes and review assigned materials

• Create weekly study session plans using strategies learned in PASS training session

• Conduct two 75-minute or three 50-minute study sessions each week throughout the term

• Promote PASS to students

• Provide handouts for use during PASS

• Keep regular and accurate attendance records

• Attend training session and regularly scheduled meetings

• Maintain contact with supervisor, professor and other staff as required

• Other duties as assigned

Salary: a stipend of $1800 for the semester, September 5 – December 6, 2017.
