Pan-Provincial Microbiome Workshop
The University of Calgary is hosting a one-day workshop for academics, local and provincial industry members, and government representatives to develop a pan-provincial strategy focused on microbiome research.

Background/Purpose:
To bring together the diverse and multidisciplinary community of expertise within Alberta under the umbrella of microbiome research and to develop a unique pan-provincial strategy focused on this new emerging field.
Supported by the Government of Alberta, this Microbiome Workshop is an opportunity to initiate a pan-provincial dialogue on the importance of the Microbiome and its impending impact on human and animal health and agriculture.
Objectives:
Through dynamic lectures, round table discussion, and networking, we plan to:
- Highlight the microbiome research that is currently happening in Alberta
- Highlight the new infrastructure and platforms developed within the Western Canadian Microbiome Centre (WCMC) at the University of Calgary
- Bring together the community to better understand the importance of studying the microbiome and to identify potential opportunities, collaborations and partnerships
- Identify potential funding opportunities at provincial and federal levels
- Identify strengths, gaps and requirements for microbiome R&D in Alberta
- Facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration across the province
- Connect basic researchers to end users
- Capture the perspective of academia and industry on the future of microbiome research and potential commercialization within Alberta
