NSERC Discovery Grants - 2017 Intake

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

The Discovery Grants Program supports ongoing programs of research with long-term goals rather than a single short-term project or collection of projects. These grants recognize the creativity and innovation that are at the heart of all research advances. Discovery Grants are considered “grants in aid” of research, as they provide long term operating funds and can facilitate access to funding from other programs, but are not meant to support the full costs of a research program.

Only faculty members who submitted a Notice of Intent to apply on August 1, 2017 are eligible to submit a full application in October 2017.

Deadlines

Please note the following deadlines related to this year’s Discovery Grants:

  • · October 3*: Attach a solid draft of your grant application to a Research Proposal Form on the Bridge. This will allow for review and approvals to be obtained at the level of the Department Chair, Dean and VP Research.  A working copy PDF can be saved from the NSERC Research Portal and uploaded to the Research Proposal Form. Please also include a copy of your CCV. Gillian Laird (ORIS Grants Facilitator) will read and provide feedback on your draft at that time (or earlier is certainly welcome – feel free to send Gillian a draft anytime in advance).

* Please check with your department Chairs regarding any department-level deadlines and internal review processes.

Kindly inform Gillian if your intent to apply for funding in this year’s competition has changed since your NOI was submitted.

Webinars

In preparation for the submission of Discovery Grant applications, NSERC will host webinars to assist the research community on “How to complete an application” using the Research Portal and the NSERC Canadian Common CV (CCV).

Webinar dates: September 21st and 27th
