This message signals the start of another Discovery Grant competition cycle. Researchers who intend to apply for a Discovery Grant in the 2019 competition must submit a Notification of Intent to Apply (NOI) by the deadline date of August 1, 2019, 8:00 p.m. (ET). No internal approvals are necessary at the NOI stage. NSERC does not accept any NOI after the deadline, and only those who submit an NOI can proceed to submit a full application this fall.
NSERC’s recent Memo to Potential Applicants is attached.
- August 1, 2019, 8:00 p.m. (ET) - Notice of Intent (NOI)
- October 4*: Attach a solid draft of your grant application to a Research Proposal Form on the Bridge. This will allow for review and approvals to be obtained at the level of the Department Chair, Dean, and VP Research. A working copy PDF can be saved from the NSERC Research Portal and uploaded to the Research Proposal Form. Please also include a copy of your CCV. Stacey Leavitt (ORIS Grants Facilitator) will read and provide feedback on your draft at that time (or earlier is certainly welcome – feel free to send Stacey a draft anytime in advance).
- October 31**: Submit your final application through the NSERC Research Portal.
*Please check with your Department Chair regarding any department-level deadlines and internal review processes.
**Actual NSERC deadline is November 1, however in order to allow ORIS to ensure all applications are properly forwarded prior to NSERCs specified date and time, applicants are asked to ensure submission of their final application by October 31.
NSERC has scheduled webinars for applicants preparing an NOI and Full Application (click here for the full listing).
