NSERC Discovery Grant - Notice of Intent (NOI)

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

This message signals the start of another Discovery Grant competition cycle. Researchers who intend to apply for a Discovery Grant in the 2018 competition must submit a Notification of Intent to Apply (NOI) by the deadline date of August 1, 2017, 8:00 p.m. (ET).  No internal approvals are necessary at the NOI stage. NSERC does not accept any NOI after the deadline, and only those who submit an NOI can proceed to submit a full application this fall.

Deadlines

  1. August 1, 2017, 8:00 p.m. (ET) - Notice of Intent (NOI)
  1. October 3*: Attach a solid draft of your grant application to a Research Proposal Form on the Bridge. This will allow for review and approvals to be obtained at the level of the Department Chair, Dean and VP Research.  A working copy PDF can be saved from the NSERC Research Portal and uploaded to the Research Proposal Form. Please also include a copy of your CCV. Gillian Laird (ORIS Grants Facilitator) will read and provide feedback on your draft at that time (or earlier is certainly welcome – feel free to send Gillian a draft anytime in advance).
  1. October 31: Submit your final application through the NSERC Research Portal.

*Please check with your Department Chair regarding any department-level deadlines and internal review processes.

Discovery Grant Workshop

Please join Gillian Laird (ORIS Grants Facilitator, Natural Sciences) as we go over the basics of a Discovery Grant application, with a particular focus on grant writing tips and strategies, building a budget, and NSERC’s evaluation criteria. There will also be the opportunity to hear top tips from U of L faculty who have recently served on Discovery Grant Evaluation Groups.

While this workshop is intended to provide grant information and proposal development support for U of L researchers that intend to apply for or renew an NSERC Discovery Grant this fall, all researchers are welcome to attend.

By May 25th, please RSVP to Gillian Laird (gillian.laird@uleth.ca) with your general availability in June/July, and include any questions or topics you hope the workshop will address.

Webinars

NSERC has scheduled webinars for applicants preparing an NOI and Full Application (click here for the full listing).
