Job Posting - Assistant Professor - Music (Wind Orchestra Director)

The University of Lethbridge, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Music, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as University of Lethbridge Wind Orchestra Director at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2018.  This position is subject to the approval of the Board of Governors.

A completed doctorate is preferred.  Applicants who are ABD and/or nearing completion of their degree or those with commensurate professional experience will also be considered.  “Commensurate professional experience” refers to a substantial career as a conductor/performing artist with an equal reputation as a pedagogue at the post-secondary level.  The successful candidate will be expected to direct the University of Lethbridge Wind Orchestra and teach courses in Conducting and an instrumental (woodwinds) Studio area.  Teaching duties in other areas of the Music Department, such as Musicianship Skills, Music Theory or Music History, will be assigned depending upon the candidate’s secondary proficiencies.  The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the M.Mus. Music graduate program. The University aspires to hire individuals who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and research/performance/creative activities.  Administrative contributions to the Department of Music, the Faculty of Fine Arts, and University community are expected.

  • a letter of interest describing all areas of teaching expertise and professional activity,
  • a current curriculum vitae
  • statement of teaching philosophy
  • video samples of recent performances as a conductor and instrumentalist (audio and/or video for the latter)

Applicants will also be asked to input the names and contact information of three qualified referees who can assess teaching and research/creative activity. The said referees will then be sent a link where they will be asked to upload a confidential letter of reference to your application.
