Fire Prevention - Wrapping Paper Doors/Posters/Wall Coverage

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

When decorating your respective areas and doors, please ensure combustibles (e.g. posters, wrapping paper on doors) do not exceed 20% coverage of the wall/door surface on egress routes (Section 2.3.1.3 of the Alberta Fire Code) as these combustibles can contribute to the spread of fire.

Campus Safety and the Lethbridge Fire Department would like to remind everyone to ensure doors, walls and windows in egress routes are not excessively decorated and covered with combustible materials (i.e. paper/posters).  Should a fire break out, egress may be obstructed creating a life-safety issue.

If the material is non-combustible or coverage is less than 20%, items can remain.

If you have any questions, please contact Safety Services.
