Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Senior Advisor position

The University of Lethbridge strives to create a diverse and inclusive community where students, faculty and staff feel welcome, are treated equitably, and can thrive in their various endeavours. Achieving this requires intentional and systemic action. As a next step in these efforts, a position has been created to help lead and coordinate equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) initiatives and projects and to fulfill recommendations coming out of the President’s Advisory Committee on EDI.

Reporting to the President and working closely with the Director, Office of the President and the Associate Vice President, Human Resources, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Senior Advisor will chair the University of Lethbridge Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and engage campus partners to develop and implement programs promoting diversity and inclusion on campus that are aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan. The EDI Senior Advisor will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing the services, programs and initiatives that promote dialogue, understanding and learning through an intersectional approach.

The EDI Senior Advisor will create opportunities to develop a sense of belonging within the larger U of L community, promote visibility and provide support and referrals to services both on and off campus for underrepresented students, staff and faculty. They will work closely with campus partners and stakeholders to promote, implement and enhance programs that promote diversity and inclusion.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Chair the University’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee that is a representative group of various campus stakeholders, including student and employee groups
  • In collaboration with the EDI Committee, develop and implement comprehensive strategies that will promote and maintain an inclusive, welcoming environment that supports the broader inclusion work happening at the University of Lethbridge
  • Collaborate with University Advancement and other stakeholders to develop communication plans, strategies and content regarding EDI initiatives, events and projects
  • In consultation with internal and external experts, initiate and support the orientation and ongoing training of faculty and staff on implicit biases, diversity, equity and creating an inclusive work environment
  • Provide expert advice and act as a consultant for key stakeholders within the Senior Leadership group to ensure principles of equity, diversity and inclusion are considered in all aspects of institutional operations and program planning
  • Promote and support compliance with legislation on accessibility, diversity, inclusion, equity and human rights, and support the organization through employment systems reviews and employment equity audits
  • Ensure initiatives related to gender, sexuality, indigenization, internationalization, anti-racism, etc. that are undertaken by various groups are integrated and coordinated across both campuses for greater effect and efficiency
  • Build awareness through the provision of resources and supports to faculty to encourage diversification of their curriculum (gender, sexuality, indigenization, internationalization, anti-racism, etc.)
  • Coordinate the development of initiatives, including awareness campaigns aimed at increasing visibility for underrepresented students, staff and faculty and enhance a campus culture of equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Support the implementation and ongoing monitoring of the Canada Research Chair (CRC) EDI Action plan in collaboration with the Office of Research and Innovation Services
