I write today to announce that I have accepted the resignation of Dr. Claudia Malacrida as the Associate Vice-President of Research (AVPR), effective August 31, 2019. Starting on September 1, 2019, Dr. Malacrida will take vacation followed by her accumulated administrative leave. On her return, Dr. Malacrida will return to her role as a professor in the Faculty of Arts & Science. Dr. Malacrida is a sociologist whose research continues in the area of eugenics, medical intervention, sexuality, and disability.

Going forward, we will be evaluating the directives and objectives of this position as it supports the Strategic Research Plan and the overall objectives of the University.

I would like to thank Claudia for her service to the University. Since assuming the position as AVPR, Claudia has spearheaded a number of initiatives of value to the University community, including restructuring the Board of Governors Research Chairs, introducing UNIWeb as a research networking and Curriculum Vitae (CV) tool, building a mentorship program for new faculty through the Supporting Outstanding University Research and Creative Excellence (SOURCE) program, and founding the highly successful Take Two Speaker Series. In addition, Claudia has been a tireless advocate for increased research funding, support for all disciplines in the research ecosystem, and the implementation of equity, diversity and inclusion policy at the federal level, through her work on the Federal Science Review Panel, and her board positions on the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the Federation for Social Sciences and Humanities.
