COVID-19 — Employee Update, Mar. 19

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As we come to the close of the second day of an alternative delivery model for instruction at the University of Lethbridge, I want to express my gratitude to our campus community for their collective effort in making this transition work. These are extraordinary circumstances and I am proud that our institution is rising to the challenge presented to us by the COVID-19 situation.

I am pleased to offer the following updates.

Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)

The U of L activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) on March 14 to manage and coordinate its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Decisions that are guiding the U of L through this challenge have been made through this process.

This is an extraordinary time. If the EOC contacts you for information, to perform a task or undertake an action, the expectation is that this request should take precedence over all other considerations.

Working Remotely

As the COVID-19 situation continues to progress, we acknowledge our obligation to be part of widespread public health efforts by limiting access to campus as much as possible.

The expectation is that only those employees required to work on campus, in consultation with supervisors, may do so. All other employees are required to work remotely.

As the University transitions to this model, resources have been developed to assist this shift. Depending on what tasks you need to complete, you may not need anything more than a basic laptop with minimal software and a makeshift office space. This site provides guidance on what you will need to work remotely.

Research on Campus

As communicated yesterday, researchers, as well as students and staff, are required to shift their duties and their workplace from the University campus to home, unless they have discussed this with the Risk and Safety Services office and have secured permission from the AVPR. More information regarding this can be found here.

Working on Campus Registry

Faculty and employees who are required to work on campus to maintain vital functions at the U of L are required to sign in, on a daily basis, to a new Working on Campus registry. This registry will allow the EOC to monitor the number of individuals we have on campus at any given time.

Calgary Campus

Calgary Campus administrative offices are now closed with staff working remotely and available between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Bow Valley College remains open but with enhanced security protocols including limited hours with no building access after 6:30 p.m., or at all on weekends.

The computer labs and library are also now closed to students and staff.

Once again, I would like to extend my thanks to our faculty and staff for the work they have undertaken to ensure we are able to serve our students and communities during this exceptional time.
