The University of Lethbridge expresses its sincere condolences to the friends, family and former colleagues of Jennifer Gordon, a former assistant professor in the Department of Art who passed away in Montreal recently.

Jennifer Gordon (1952-2018)

Jennifer Gordon was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad in 1952. She received her BFA from Mount Allison University and her MFA from Concordia University. She began her professional career by teaching at Concordia for nine years. Gordon then moved on to the University of Lethbridge in 1990 and spent 12 years as an assistant professor in the Department of Art.

As a painter and photographer, Gordon has exhibited her work at public and private galleries across Canada, including her 1999 installation, The Sky is Falling, at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery. Her artist book, Choosing the Dots, Avoiding the Holes, was recently purchased by the National Gallery of Canada. In 2004, three of her paintings were acquired by the Art Gallery of Ontario.

For the final two years of her life, Gordon was a patient at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, where she received wonderful care from a team of doctors, nurses, orderlies and staff. Her family has established the Jennifer Gordon Memorial Fund for Cancer Research at the Jewish General Hospital and asks that in lieu of flowers, if anyone would like to make a donation, to direct it there.

Donations can be made by accessing the website jghfoundation.org, or calling 514-340-8251.
