The University of Lethbridge extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Pat Elemans (BMgt ’85) who passed away in Victoria at the end of March due to cancer.

After obtaining her degree in marketing through the then Faculty of Management, Elemans began working for the University in 1986 and undertook a variety of leadership roles, including instructor and management skills coordinator and presenter before becoming the assistant dean of undergraduate programs. Elemans also completed a master’s degree at York University.

“She was instrumental in building and running our management skills program and workshops that ran for almost a decade,” says Dr. Bob Boudreau, former dean of what is now the Dhillon School of Business. “This focus on skills set us apart from the vast majority of business programs around North America in the 1980s and 1990s. This approach to skills was largely Pat’s doing and serves to define us today in the Dhillon School of Business.

“Pat was my student, and later a colleague and friend. She was a dynamo. Whatever the task was in work and in life, she approached it with boundless enthusiasm and energy. Pat was constantly on and fully engaged in whatever she was doing. At the same time, she was caring and giving in helping and supporting others. Her quest for excellence was second to none, whether it was giving a presentation, organizing a faculty party or heading out on our annual hunt for Christmas trees in the foothills.”

Elemans, whose hometown was Lethbridge, was at the U of L for 18 years before she joined the University of Victoria in the early 2000s to become director of their MBA program and later assistant dean in the Gustavson School of Business.

“To many of us here at the U of L, Pat was a pivotal person who helped shape who we are today. While she left Lethbridge 16 years ago, Pat’s legacy has and will continue to live on in her hometown and beyond,” says Boudreau. “Many of our current faculty members who worked with Pat are grieving her loss.”
