Condolence Notice — Kathleen Jean Hunter

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Kathleen Jean Hunter, who passed away in Edmonton on July 19, three days away from her 101st birthday.

Kathleen was one of the first employees of the U of L when it was founded in 1967. In 1969 she started serving as a secretary in the President’s Office, serving three presidents during her tenure at the U of L. She watched the U of L grow from the start of construction of University Hall to the vital institution it is today.

She was born in 1914 and raised in Winnipeg, the only member of her Irish family to be born in Canada. She married William Craig Montgomerie in 1941 and eight years later the couple and their young son, Craig, moved to Calgary. They added another son, Ian, to their family and moved to Lethbridge in 1959.

After her retirement from the U of L in 1979, Kathleen and her husband, Bob, enjoyed travelling, entertaining and playing bridge. She moved to Edmonton in 2001 to be closer to family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the U of L’s Supporting Our Students Scholarship Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, July 29 at 1:30 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel in Edmonton. The flag will be lowered that day in her memory. To send condolences, visit www.parkmemorial.com.
