On behalf of Dr. Paul Lasko, Scientific Director of the CIHR’s Institute of Genetics (CIHR-IG) we are advertising an exciting opportunity for new principal investigators and faculty members at the University of Lethbridge.

The 14th Annual New Principal Investigators Meeting (October 30 - November 1, 2015, Mont Gabriel, Québec) will be a mentorship and networking event designed to strengthen the professional development of junior faculty working in related or overlapping fields. Virtually without exception the more than 1,300 New PIs who have attended one of the thirteen previous New PI meetings have declared it to be a valuable experience.

The format of this meeting is targeted to a broad range of genetic researchers, including basic, clinical, applied and ethical legal and social research. Investigators will describe their recent research and indicate what was critical to their developing a successful research career. Established scientists will also lead workshops on key aspects of establishing a successful lab, including grant writing, administrative and human resource challenges of running a laboratory or research team, communications and valorization of research outcomes.

We have been asked to identify the new principal investigators and junior faculty in their 0 - 4th year at our institution whose work falls within CIHR-IG mandate.

IG supports research on the human and model genomes and on all aspects of genetics, basic biochemistry and cell biology related to health and disease, including the translation of knowledge into health policy and practice, and the societal implications of genetic discoveries.

All candidates accepted to attend the meeting will have all their travel expenses borne by the host institute: it’s free!.

Nominees need not hold a CIHR grant. To recommend candidates, please contact Penny D'Agnone at penny.dagnone@uleth.ca before Thursday, September 3, 2015 and include the name(s) and email address(es) of the new Principal Investigators.  If a scientist has not yet arrived at our institution, but is expected to start up their research program within the calendar year, and has a firm committed position in your faculty, please provide their name(s) and email address(es).
