AIHS Announces New Cancer Prevention Research Opportunity

Current research shows that about half of cancers can be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices and policies that protect the public.i Learning more about how we can improve the social and physical environments where we all live, work and play and how to support healthy choices and changes is a first step in cancer prevention. The learning begins with research.

We are delighted to announce a new research competition called the Cancer Prevention Research Opportunity (CPRO), part of our Collaborative Research and Innovation Opportunities (CRIO) funding portfolio.

CPRO will support research that will lead to new knowledge in cancer prevention and screening and that will help move this knowledge into use in the health system and in the community. This is an opportunity for people working in the community, in academic institutions, in policy, and in primary and acute care settings to collaborate on and develop research that shows the most promise to improve cancer prevention and screening for Albertans.

The $7 million for this opportunity is provided by the Alberta Cancer Prevention Legacy Fund (ACPLF). The ACPLF aims to transform cancer prevention with Albertans through innovative population-based initiatives, screening, and collaborative, focused research. Alberta Health Services and AIHS work together to deliver on ACPLF’s mandate under the strategic guidance of the Government of Alberta in accordance with ACPLF priorities.

We invite you to attend the CPRO workshop on June 16th, 2015 in Edmonton to engage with ACPLF stakeholders and develop a strong collaborative research approach to address the province’s cancer prevention needs. Attendance at the workshop by a Collaborative Lead is required for those interested in submitting an LOI.

Registration deadline for the workshop is June 1, 2015!
