Applications now open for the 2020 Student Speaker Challenge!

The Student Speaker Challenge 2020 is here and accepting submissions!

This year’s topic is: “What is the Cost of Public Education?”

Speakers are encouraged to build their speech around this topic, using any narrative and argument that fits their thesis. 

Eight students will be chosen to face off in two rounds, with cash awards going to the top three speakers. 

The awards for speakers are:

1st place: $750.00

2nd place: $500.00

3rd place: $300.00 

And a $50.00 bookstore gift certificate for the five participants who didn’t place.

To apply, please fill out this form complete with a description of your thesis. The Student Speaker Challenge is open to any undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Lethbridge. Applications will be judged based on clarity of thesis and argument. Deadline to apply is midnight Jan. 27. 

The first round featuring all eight speakers will be held Feb. 5 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. The second round featuring the top four speakers from the first round will be held Feb. 12 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. 

This year’s Student Speaker Challenge is presented by the Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs, the Women’s Centre, the University of Lethbridge Students’ Union, the Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group.
