Call for Funding Applications

The Alberta Upstream Petroleum Research Fund (AUPRF) is seeking applications for the 2017 funding cycle for projects that are of focused interest to industry. These priority issues include: Air, Ecological, Soil and Groundwater, Water, and Well Abandonment.

The Alberta Upstream Petroleum Research Fund (AUPRF) is an industry-sponsored fund supported by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) and the Explorers and Producers Association of Canada (EPAC). The AUPRF Program is managed and administered through Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC). PTAC is a neutral facilitator of multi-stakeholder industry research and technology development projects and PTAC staff will not screen, evaluate or make decisions on the review of proposals and selection of projects. The AUPRF Program provides an effective mechanism for industry and government to coordinate and collaborate on the formulation and delivery of strategic environmental research and innovation.

The AUPRF Program supports practical science-based studies that develop credible and relevant information to address knowledge gaps in the understanding and management of high priority environmental and social matters related to conventional oil and gas exploration and development in Alberta. Research results are shared with the oil and gas industry as well as regulators, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

In 2016, industry invested through AUPRF over $2M in environmental research projects leveraging significant additional funding resulting in projects with total costs equaling more than $11M.

The AUPRF application process utilizes a staged approach. Interested applicants should submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) no later than November 9, 2016. Please note that selected applicants will be advised of the request for a more detailed proposal by early December with a proposal deadline of Mid January 2017. Applicants who’s proposals have been shortlisted will be advised in March 2017.  Selected projects to proceed will be announced June 2017 when confirmation of funding is collected.
