Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) is a Government of Canada initiative that provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students based on certain assessment criteria and local priorities. The University of Lethbridge in support of student development is processing an application for funding to hire students. CSJ is a reimbursement program and as a public sector employer, the University of Lethbridge is eligible for reimbursement up to 50% of the provincial minimum wage (currently $12.20 per hour). The CSJ Program will run from Monday, April 17, 2017 through Saturday, August 26, 2017.

Human Resources will process the applications for funding before the application deadline of January 20, 2017. We ask that all applications be received by email no later than Thursday, January 19, 2017, in order to include the proposed job in the University’s application.

Important Notes: To be eligible for CSJ funding, the job must:

• must provide meaningful work experience for the student;
• the duration of the job must be between six and sixteen weeks. Normally, these weeks are consecutive;
• jobs must be full-time (i.e. from a minimum of 30 to a maximum of 40 hours per week). Any weeks during which fewer than the minimum 30 hours of work may be deemed ineligible. Under exceptional circumstances, students with disabilities or with other barriers to full-time employment are eligible to work part-time;
• the earliest project start date is Monday, April 17, 2017;
• the latest project start date is Sunday, July 16, 2017; and,
• the latest project end date is Saturday, August 26, 2017.

Important Notes: To be eligible for CSJ funding, students must:

• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year (Fall 2016 and Spring 2017) and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year (Fall 2017 and Spring 2018);
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
• be legally entitled to work in Canada.
