University of Lethbridge 50th Anniversary Song Competition

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

In 2017 the University of Lethbridge celebrates its 50th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, the Faculty of Fine Arts invites submissions of original vocal compositions.

Vocal works in all styles and genres are acceptable.  While the subject matter of the composition is not prescribed, it is anticipated the song would both celebrate the anniversary and the University’s purpose -- the pursuit of knowledge and education of tomorrow’s citizens.

The composer of the winning submission receives a $4,000 award and the composition will be performed at events throughout the 50th anniversary year, including university convocation.  Therefore, the composition must be suitable for transcription and different orchestrations.

Submission Requirements

  • Submission must be between 3.5 and 4 minutes long.  Compositions failing to meet this criterion will not be considered.
  • Composers must be residents of Canada.
  • Only one submission per individual is accepted.
  • Submissions must be received by no later than August 31, 2015.
  • Submissions must be scored for voice and piano or voice and guitar.  Submissions including other instruments will not be considered.

Submission

  • All materials (mp3 files, word document of lyrics, score, and copyright authorization – if needed) must be submitted to ulethbridge.slideroom.com  Other types of submissions will not be considered.

Date

  • By December 31, 2015 a jury will select 4 finalists.
