Physical Comedy for Young Audiences

Room W401, Centre for the Arts

This workshop is FREE but you must register in person with Sarah Hilliard at the Fine Arts Admin Office (W660) as space is limited.  Students will create imaginative characters through physical theatre explorations and combine this with the practice of physical comedy skills and routine building in the realm of theatre for young audiences.  In groups, students will practice devising ensemble generated work to entertain, educate and connect with young audiences.  Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in.  Students should also bring a water bottle, notepad and pencil.

Alice Nelson holds an MFA in Ensemble-Based Physical Theatre from Dell’Arte Physical Theatre School. She is a director, playwright, actor, puppeteer and educator. She has written and toured many shows, including Ms.Sugarcoat, Elephant, and most recently, Animal Farm Treatment. She has worked for Lunchbox Theatre, Trickster Theatre, Quest Theatre, New West Theatre, Empress Theatre, Calgary Animated Object Society, Green Fools and Loose Moose Theatre. She has taught at Red Deer College, Mount Royal University, Rosebud School for the Arts and Ambrose University. Alice is a volunteer with Clowns Without Borders and AARCS (Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society).
