The saying goes, what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander, and this proves all too true in Georges Feydeau’s hilarious masterpiece, Sauce for the Goose. This over-the-top classic farce, complete with sidesplitting dialogue set at a breathtaking tempo, takes to the University Theatre stage Nov. 18 – 22 at 8 pm nightly.

“Simply put, this is a really fun show,” says director, Ron Chambers. “Feydeau was a master of French farce and this play has a great plot set in turn-of-the-century France.”

In Belle Époque Paris, the beautiful Lucienne is romantically pursued by the adulterous Pontagnac and the lecherous bachelor, Redillon. Though tempted, Lucienne stays true to her husband . . . until one of his previous ‘indiscretions’ unexpectedly arrives. Lucienne exacts her revenge at the ‘Hotel Ultimus’ a favourite rendezvous for other philandering Parisiennes, and mayhem ensues!

From the sumptuous set, designed by David Barrus (MFA ’13), and opulent costuming by drama professor Leslie Robison-Greene, Sauce for the Goose is a feast for the eyes and satisfies the palate for clever plot twists, wit, and comedic physicality.

Featuring a large cast of characters, Sauce for the Goose is a technical challenge for the director to choreograph as well as for the individual actor to execute. “Farce is light and each movement needs to have impeccable timing,” Chambers adds.
