The Department of Art invites community members, students and those involved with the arts and culture sector working in Lethbridge, across Alberta and globally, to attend the annual Graduate Student presentations and public critique.

Five individuals, each pursuing advanced research-creation degrees at the University of Lethbridge, discuss their current projects, works that combine scholarly investigation with innovation through art and design.

Amber Morrison Fox completed her BA in Visual Art and Creative Writing at Vancouver Island University in June 2018 and is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Lethbridge. She won the VIU Visual Art Major Award of Excellence, Best Poetry Performance at VIU Create Conference, and Nanaimo Art Gallery’s Achievement Award in 2018. Anna Nikolova is a 2nd year MFA New Media candidate. She earned a BSc in Multimedia, Computer Graphics and Animation from the New Bulgarian University. Her research and artistic practice investigates interactive virtual environments as an evolving narrative form. Due to the pandemic, living in relative isolation, she began to consider and question parallel world building, her relationship with technology and virtual space, and the desire to reconnect with nature.

Lorne Power studied photography at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design from 2015-2018. His first solo exhibition, Convenience, was held at a corner store in December 2018. In July 2019, he collaborated with his partner, dance artist Sarah Power, in the performance, No Flies on You, as part of Third Shift, a public art festival. In September 2019, his second solo show, Not After Last Night, was held at Jones Gallery in Saint John. This past Fall, Lorne began graduate studies in the MFA program at the University of Lethbridge. 

Migueltzinta Solís is an interdisciplinary artist and writer. He holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from The Evergreen State College and an MFA in Art from the University of Lethbridge. Migueltzinta is currently a 2nd year student in the Cultural, Social and Political Thought PhD program. This is his fifth time presenting for Art Now.

Nayan Velaskar is a virtual reality artist. He is a first year MFA New Media student. He earned his BFA in experimental media from Teesside University. His artistic practice concerns negotiating and establishing virtual queer space.
