Quatuor International de Saxophones Concert & Presentation
Wednesday, February 10, 2016
2 pm, University Recital Hall
Free, everyone welcome.

A student performance starts the afternoon, followed by a riveting recital and presentation by renown Quatuor International de Saxophones.

The QUATUOR INTERNATIONAL DE SAXOPHONES (QIS) was formed in 2002 for performances at the World Saxophone Congress in Minneapolis.  It grew out of the idea that the members had known each other for some years and adjudicated at many of the world’s international competitions together, yet they had rarely performed together. Belgian, French, Japanese and American composers have written new music for them.  They have also commissioned new works by composers Roger Boutry, Frederic Devreese, Sylvain Kassap, Tetsunosuke Kushida, Carleton Macy, Junichi Nihashi, and François Rossé.   Each year since 2002 the members have met in different parts of the world to perform together and explore new directions in contemporary music from composers of diverse cultural and national backgrounds.

QIS group members (pictured from left to right):

  • Jean-Pierre Baraglioli, soprano saxophone (France)
  • Richard Dirlam, baritone saxophone (United States)
  • Keiji Munesada, tenor saxophone (Japan)
  • William H Street, alto saxophone (Canada)
