Converting a Nation: family, religion, and Calvinism in sixteenth and seventeenth-century Scotland.

In 1560 the Scottish Parliament adopted the Scots Confession, a religious document which effectively committed to converting the religion of the entire nation. The fiery sermons of John Knox could only be counted on to sway the convictions of some of his flock. This paper investigates the various techniques that the new Kirk of Scotland used to convert the minds and hearts of the nation. Learn more.
