PROFESSOR W. WARREN H. BINFORD delivers: "THE IMPACT OF DIGITALIZATION ON SEX ABUSE VICTIMS"

W. WARREN H. BINFORD, Associate Professor of Law, Director of the Clinical Law Program, Willamette University

Professor Binford was recently selected as the Inaugural Fulbright Canada-Norlen Foundation Distinguished Visiting Chair in Brain Science, and Child and Family Health and Wellness at the University of Calgary where she will be conducting research during the fall 2015 semester on the impact of child pronography on victims with an eye toward legal solutions.  She will return to Willamette in January 2016.  In 2012, Professor Binford was selected as a Fulbright Scholar and spent six months in South Africa lecturing and researching children's issues and the advancement of children's rights in Africa.  In addition to her expertise in corporate law, Professor Binford has actively worked throughout her career as a child advocate.  Prior to law school Binford was a licensed teacher with experience teaching in the inner cities of South Central Los Angeles, Boston and London.  She has served as a Couirt-Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children in the United States.

"THE IMPACT OF DIGITALIZATION ON SEX ABUSE VICTIMS"

"The Impact of Digitalization on Sex Abuse Victims considers the complicating factors of technology on the recovery and reintegration of child sex abuse victims in the 21st century.  The research highlights the rapidly developing brains of young victims and the heightened impact of continuing trauma on their development with potential lifelong impact.  The research focuses on the need to modernize legal protections to better support child sex abuse victims in light of the global and enduring nature of the publication of the recordings of their abuse.
