Gender and Labour Market Regimes in Post-disaster Communities: Trans-local Relations and Globality

The aftermath of a natural disorder creates new realities in local economies and in gender relations. Displacement and migration often result with labour market participation affected by local, national and international intervenors working to rebuild devastated communities.  This presentation discusses the findings of fieldwork in the Leyte-Samar islands, that were heavily damaged by super typhoon Haiyan (local name, Yolanda) - the strongest typhoon ever to hit landfall - in 2013. This study is the first in this region where most communities continue to struggle with both the devastation and with a flow of funds embroiled in politics.

Presenter: Glenda Lynna Anne Tibe Bonifacio, PhD. Associate Professor, Department of Women and Gender Studies, Research Affiliate, Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy, University of Lethbridge
